Durban Interior: Cécile and Boyd’s

Observing the nearby Durban interior scene I opened doors and walked into an icon on the Durban décor scene,  for over 20 years and a must visit destination for those interior showgoers. Cécile and Boyd’s have a distinctive international signature style that blends classic and contemporary, European and African design trends into an eclectic mix that is juxtaposed with the raw spirit of the gorgeous vintage building.

Surrounded by beautiful gardens, perhaps the most charming addition of the overall interior store is the re-purposing of an adjoining building into an outdoor show room. Cécile and Boyd’s Durban shop located on the fashionable Florida road is an interior design space offering unrivalled retailed experience, showcasing a collection of moden and vintage as well as cultural furniture, art, accessories in a home setting.

Durban Interior - Karen Hatfield

Between a system of complimentary warm toned walls and well-exaggerated bare windows that make ample way for natural light, there is a carefully selected elegant range of gorgeous furniture and home accessories at reasonable price.

Not so long ago I got an intimate tour of Karin Hatfield, a 60 metre road frontage showroom in Durban on graceful windermere road that offers quality merchandise. After chatting with the store buyer who seemingly keeps palettes natural and warm -as there is numerous displays of wood and natural fibres- I got to the photography part and managed to capture some lovely items, that had me smitten as I came across a few known brand deco pieces from the likes of Pierre Cronje, Hope Garden Furniture, Classic Stone, Vogel Designs and African Cane.

Durban Fashion By The Sea...Takes II

Durban's colossal fashion event has been dated to the 3rd of July, just a few days away from our Durban July. Still titled ‘Fashion Meets Music’, this exciting fashion showcase will showcase David Tlale, Duke, Kathrin Kidger; Dax Martin; Karen Monk-Klijnstra; Zarth and C-Squared as well as seven of the exciting young designers who were selected for internships in Italy’s fashion capital, Milan, during last year’s Durban Fashion Fair.

See you all there as I anticipate fresh ideas from our designers!

Graphic Work Call

Today I received an order to design a multifunctional logo for a company that includes a few other projects under its umbrella. I will be working on a brief that basically states: Make it clean, simple and straight forward. Tonight should be interesting.

Off they went to Nigeria

Packed and gone are my dear parents. With hours of packing and unpacking, loosing and finding their yellow fever cards...my parents finally made their way out the house to the airport for a seven hour flight to humid and colourful Lagos Nigeria. I will admit being envious of their trip as I would have signed off on strangling flesh to wake up in north Africa and spend a humid and exciting nine days there. In any case, being such a wishful person, I got way-ahead of myself and put together a cool young travelers outfit guide (for ladies) in case any of you are lucky enough to venture to warmer places! :)  Hello Nigeria. xoxo

  • Madewell blanca jacquard dress is structured with over sized turn-up sleeves, this boxy dress is a cool modern take of a simple summer dress that looks great on any body type. That is why I personally love it.
  • Rucksack at Foschini for R320
  • Urbanmosadi camera strap is a trendy essential -turned accessory- for your camera. What better way to capture beauty but with stripe print camera strap with a bold African colour-way twisted around you arm!

Winter Sessions GORGEOUS TOTE

WINTER SESSION

Run by prolifics, Roy Katz and Tanya Fleisher out of a storefront workshop in Denver, Winter Session began in Chicago in 2010 as a way to explore new creative ideas and channel past experiences in art, design and architecture. Their ongoing mission is to design and produce thoughtful, well-made things in a responsible manner. Operating on a flexible scale, combing  traditional methods and innovative technology to find a balance between utilitarian function, durability and aesthetic appeal. Made from natural cotton, waxed cotton and leather, the Garrison bag is indeed a well engineered, timeless silhouette and heavy duty tote that would set many fashion handbags aside.

I WOULD HAVE WINTER SESSION AT ANY SEASON! WHAT A BEAUTY.

Aaah!

Monday mornings are a tug hey, my boss calls them "big girl pantie mornings". I am coming down with a flu that has me sniffing and watery eyed this whole morning. The weekend was pretty frustrating with high hopes and low outcomes, some friends are at their truest nature which has me doubting future relations, college still stands to be completed... gosh... you name the rest as I hope I do not end up as a blithering idiot cursing the sun after confessing the end is nigh randomly at people on the streets - never blame me if i do. Been reading zenpencils and as per norm I find myself laughing and going through emotional promotion as I read the motivational comic strips by a bunch of amazing peeps.

Let me start you up with a link to a mind expanding comic strip by Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) that has me pushing further into my plans HERE.

THANK YOU ZENPENCILS!

Balmain S/S 2013 WOVEN COLLECTION

It literally is basket weaving woven using leatherand raffia, Balmain's S/S 2013 collection. A tight range of designs gracefully resemble wicker furniture. This craft of basket-woven raffia, is an insane translation of attention to detail and craftsmanship by the designer.

A proud sense of hope in Creative-Minds

I have come to a realization that I am not the only perplexed artist looking at some rather bizarre - which in this case means grand- works of art or even mind musing TED Talks by prolific people, and wondering how the hell they come up with such things. I always take time out to try and evaluate the artists' possible creative thought process  and fathom how it all came to be. Nothing really gets my mind and emotions gushing with thrill like the outcomes of the hands and minds of creative folks -and by creative I mean creative in the old and original sense of the word, not modern society that celebrates the after taste of a once innovative idea.  I often ask myself...How they do it and what will blow me next with a proud sense of hope in being a segmant of a whole world of fruitful creatives.

Fact Of Fashion #4

Let's help you identify your wardrobe correctly, a clothing would only be called vintage if it dates back from the years 1920, 1930, 1940,1950 and 1960. Any piece of clothing or accessory that dates after those years is not considered vintage but rather retro.

A Floral Frame of Mind

This here Cortez design was created in 1972 by an Olympic-class track coach Bill Bowerman. The Cortez was the first track shoe from Nike and remains one of the most recognizable silhouettes from the brand that is still popular amongst Nike minions and said to be a significant aspect to the success of Nike. I love their floral game on these sneakers. Absolutely beautiful and trendy for those, who like me believe in flower foot fetish.
